At Slate and Stone Curated Retreats, adventure begins right outside your door. Our private hiking trails, etched into the rugged beauty of the Hocking Hills, offer more than a simple walk—they challenge you to connect deeply with the land, with every step pushing you closer to breathtaking vistas and a quiet sense of discovery.
The trails were once used as logging roads, a reminder of a time when the land was shaped by hands other than nature’s. But we saw potential in these forgotten paths and transformed them into a true adventurer’s paradise. This isn’t your average stroll; our trails are moderately difficult with steep climbs and winding terrain, they’re designed for those looking to embrace the raw beauty of the forest.
If you’re ready to challenge yourself and experience the heart of nature, our trails await. Step into the forest, and let the journey begin.
To make the most of your hike on our private trails, we recommend bringing a few essentials for your comfort and safety.
Our Perimeter Loop Trail is a 2.5-mile adventure that hugs the edge of our property, offering both a rewarding challenge and the chance to immerse yourself in nature’s raw beauty. With steady climbs of 447 feet and dips of 454 feet, the trail takes you through changing landscapes and elevations. Along the way, look out for trail signs directing you to scenic trails that lead to some of our favorite secret spots—scenic overlooks that invite you to pause and take it all in. This isn’t just a hike; it’s a journey through the heart of the land we love.
The Birch Forest Trail is a short path that leads you into a magical, unexpected grove of birch trees—an uncommon sight in our region. As you wander this peaceful offshoot from the Perimeter Trail, you’ll be greeted by the soft rustling of leaves and, in early summer, an enchanting forest floor blanketed with towering ferns. A gentle stream winds through this serene woodland, making it feel like a hidden oasis tucked away from the rest of the world.
Rocky Point is a hidden gem on our property, where the raw beauty of the landscape reveals layers of history. As you approach this overlook, you'll notice rugged rock formations rising naturally from the hillside, their surfaces softened by a carpet of vibrant green moss. Piles of stones, likely cleared long ago to make way for farming, have now become part of the forest, weathered by time and embraced by nature.
This peaceful path winds through a field of wildflowers along Raccoon Creek where a soft mist often drifts in during the early morning and just before sunset-giving the trail its name.
Its a short 1/2 mile loop just off the main trail, perfect for an easy morning stroll and just long enough to entice you to explore more of our 120 acres of rolling hills and scenic ridges.
Private hiking trails, slow mornings, and peaceful, star-filled nights await. Book your stay today and experience heartfelt hospitality for yourself in the Hocking Hills.
